Having spent many years playing Steinways in general, and always eagerly awaiting the next time I could play a model D, I can say from personal experience that nothing, I mean nothing, matches the sheer power put forth by this piano
This particular model, the D, is the grand-daddy of their grand piano line-up. At just shy under 9 feet, it is an imposing sight on any stage. When seated at the keyboard, the strings seem to extend out towards infinity, just as the sound produced therein tends to do. No matter what setting the instrument is in--on a stage, or in a storage room--I always love to sit at these behemoths and belt out incredible bass octaves like no other instrument can.
